The selection criteria for inclusion in this list are: (1) The activity has to involve a specific competitive youth "sport". The arts (acting, band, choir, dance, debate, painting, singing, etc.) have been excluded as well as some other competitive activities (e.g., bicycle racing, bungee jumping, checkers and chess, curling, fishing, handball and team handball, horseback riding and vaulting, horseshoes, hurling, ice-skating, jacks, juggling, lawn bowling, lawn darts, marshal arts and self-defense, orienteering, paint-ball, race-walking, rock climbing, rodeo, roller-blading, rowing, sailing and yachting, scuba diving, snow sports, surfing, video gaming, wind-surfing, etc.) for which we have no information, but we'd add if we had it. Multi-sport organizations (PAL, YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, etc.), athletic facilities, summer sports camps, religious groups, and municipal departments of Parks and Recreation (featured elsewhere on this website) are excluded despite their incredible contributions to youth sports. (2) There must be a Northern California (and, preferably, a Peninsula) representation (team, club, troop, branch, league, association, etc.) of the sport that a parent can contact. Usually, only the most inclusive Northern California representation of the activity is listed. For example, teams would not generally be listed if there are local clubs that they belong to. Local clubs would not listed if there are local leagues that they play in. And, so on. (3) The activity must have a credible and stable online presence (i.e., a website) that a parent can visit in order to learn more. Activities with only mailing addresses and/or email addresses aren't listed.
